Rogers’ soft vocals, mild demeanor, and unrelenting kindness prompted interest and conjecture about their personal life throughout their profession. Rumors about Mr. Rogers went the gamut, from claims he was a convicted child molester (no criminal record of any kind has come to light), to rumblings that despite a half-century-long marriage to the same woman, he was actually gay (contrary to all available evidence) that he had an earlier career as a Marine sniper or Navy SEAL (he did not serve in the military in any capacity), to the accusation.
A biography that is new (the nice Neighbor: the life span and Work of Fred Rogers, by Maxwell King) reaffirmed that Fred Rogers had been just who he appeared to be in just about any respect, even while the book motivated a complete brand new round of conjecture about his sexuality.
